Travel, NZ bubble and Wine!

by David Sumich

I have to admit there hasn't been much good news of late, relating to travel at least! In fact, our travel industry has been hit hard, understandable given the global pandemic that reared its ugly head in March 2020.  The Australian approach to Covid-19 has been tight, necessary and effective... so much so that the Federal and State governments are now beginning to ‘step through’ some easing of restrictions.

The possibility of interstate travel in a few months is a reality and the Governments of Australia and New Zealand are currently discussing the possibility of opening up borders to each other and creating a travel corridor or "travel bubble" between the two nations. This is good news indeed as we look forward to finally sharing some inspirational and aspirational destinations with you!

So what will travel look like in the future?  There is a lot to consider. It may be that we travel less often but with more emphasis on creating a truly unique trip with authentic and local experiences. Perhaps even quality and experiential travel will become the 'norm'. We’ve all had a chance to stop and smell the roses these past few months and as I result I feel there will be a greater emphasis placed on conscious and sustainable tourism as we move forward.

Given we probably won't be travelling back to Europe anytime soon, there are some pretty cool, domestic getaways on offer! How would you feel about taking an extra day off from work (or the kids) and sneaking away with your partner or friends for a long week-end;

  • Experience stunning landscapes, private luxury, and McLaren Vale's finest food and wine on a three-day private tour, or
  • Indulge your love of wine, food, culture and nature in the magnificent Margaret River on a three-day private tour, or
  • Explore the picturesque Yarra ( with a sunrise balloon ride )and King Valleys in Victoria on a three-day private tour

I have worked in travel for 20 years and the experiences I look for that are just that, unique, authentic and local.  If we can provide that and the opportunity to experience it with like-minded people or friends, it really doesn't get much better!  Making memories and friendships really is what it is all about.

So we'll take this one step at a time and continue to stop and smell the roses. In the meantime, start dreaming now about where you'll travel to next (must include wine) and remember, don't overlook our local market, we have much to offer in the form of short getaways!  In the meantime, rest assured the team at Don's Emporium is working on some pretty spectacular travel opportunities for 2021.
